The Rotary Club of Chennai Capital (RCCC) and the Rotaract Club of Hindustan University (RACHU) today celebrated a landmark success with “KURUTHI Phase-2,” a blood donation camp that saw over 1,000 units collected at MGR Hall, Hindustan University.
The event was organized in loving memory of the late Dr. KCG Verghese, the visionary founder of the Hindustan Group of Institutions. This monumental effort was made possible through the unwavering support and patronage of Dr. Ashok Verghese (Vice President, Hindustan Group of Institutions), who served as the Guest of Honor.
Leadership and Vision
The camp was inaugurated by Chief Guest Rtn. Prashanth Gireesh (Community Service Director, RCCC), who has been a driving force behind the club’s large-scale healthcare initiatives this term.
“This milestone belongs to the spirit of collaboration,” said Rtn. Apoorva J Modi, President of the Rotary Club of Chennai Capital (25-26). “By partnering with our youth in community service, we aren’t just meeting an immediate medical need; we are mentoring the next generation of leaders to understand that ‘Service Above Self’ is a collective responsibility. Reaching 1,000 units today is a testament to what we can achieve when Rotary and Rotaract work as one.”

The strategic partnership between the Rotary leadership and the youth was central to the day’s success. Dr. Ashok Verghese’s support was instrumental in mobilizing university resources and inspiring the student body to participate in record numbers.
The initiative was executed by the RCCC leadership team, including Secretary Rtn. Rajkumar P Narang, in close coordination with the RACHU team led by Rtr. Raja Pragatheeshwari (President) and Rtr. Baba Fakruddin (Event Chairperson) under the able guidance of Rtn Gnanasekaran
The 1,000 units collected will be distributed to premier medical institutions across Chennai, significantly bolstering the city’s capacity for emergency surgeries and pediatric ICU care. This project further solidifies the Rotary Club of Chennai Capital’s reputation for executing high-impact, life-saving community projects.
