GARUDAN is an action drama film written and directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar, from a story by Vetrimaaran. It is jointly produced by Vetrimaaran’s Grass Root Film Company and K. Kumar’s Lark Studios.
What works for the film right from the beginning is the intensity of the film. The story, the setting and the narration all might look familiar but the undercurrent that travels throughout the film is what works wonderfully for the film. Despite the cliché drama at times, the character of Soori is what holds the film. There are many moments in the film that bring back memories of the past films in such settings but then the character of Soori keeps hovering above reminding us that there is more in store. Credit again for the balancing act of the three characters in the film as there is enough meat for each of those characters as they hold fort in their own ways. Despite all the good stuff there is the air of predictability that runs in every scene and until the end too, not to forget the logical loopholes and the unreasonable drama at times.
Soori’s characterization is a huge bonus for the film and he does his part well. Sasikumar is his usual self. Unni Mukundan is good. Samuthrakanni’s role looks bleak. Vadivukkarasi is impressive while Shivada Nair is neat.
Cinematography by Arthur Wilson is good. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score fits well. Dialogues are effective. Pradeep E Raghav’s editing is neat and direction clicks.
