AMARAN – MOVIE REVIEW

Amaran is here to shake things up in Tamil cinema, ditching the usual “keep it local” trend to dive into national pride territory. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and backed by the powerhouse combo of Raaj Kamal Films and Sony Pictures, this adaptation of India’s Most Fearless brings Major Mukund’s story to life with all the action and feels.

So, how does it hold up? Well, the writing really does land a punch. Our hero’s journey has the right mix of drama (and a few cinematic tweaks, naturally), while the family’s emotional struggles are handled neatly, steering clear of the melodrama trap.

But… then comes the romance subplot, and oh boy, does it steal the show. Suddenly, the love story takes the lead, and our soldier’s exploits feel like the backup act. It’s so prominent, in fact, you almost forget this is a story about a military hero. The soldier’s journey ends up looking more like another day at the office, while the chemistry between the lovebirds brings all the heart.

Strangely the writer avoids any flag-waving moments. They keep it neutral, business-like even… almost too much so. But just when you think it’s slowing down, the action scenes rev up the pace, and the romance keeps tugging at those heartstrings. By the end, predictable as it is, Amaran definitely makes an impact.

Now, performances: Siva Karthikeyan absolutely owns it—this might just be his best performance. Sai Pallavi? Consistently good, though sometimes she’s more “Sai Pallavi” than her character. Rahul Bose brings his signature style, and the supporting cast all hold up their parts well.

On the technical side, Amaran doesn’t miss. CH Sai’s cinematography is a visual treat, GV Prakash nails the soundtrack, dialogues are crisp, and Kalaivanan’s editing keeps things smooth. Rajkumar Periasamy directs with flair, tying it all together.

Bottom line: Definitely worth the watch.
